AMSA launches SMS resource kit
In partnership with the Australian Maritime College, AMSA successfully launched the Safety Management System (SMS) resource kit in Hobart earlier this month.
The resource kit has been designed to help industry and commercial vessel operators comply with revised operational safety requirements. This is particularly important to meet the upcoming July 2015 date for passenger and hire and drive vessels.
Following on from the launch, AMSA will host a series of SMS training sessions for trainers as well as direct with industry in the coming months.
If you are interested in hosting a workshop session in your region, please register your interest via operationalsafety@amsa.gov.au or call 02 6279 5000 (select option 3).
FREE example SMS are also available from the domestic section of the AMSA website.
Changes to vessel inspection services for SA operators
From 1 July 2015, the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) Vessel
Unit in South Australia will no longer provide vessel inspection services (surveys) or naval architecture services for domestic commercial vessels.
DPTI will continue to send out reminder notices to vessel owners for vessels which have previously been issued a certificate of survey by DPTI, two months prior to the next inspection due date. Vessel owners will need to engage an AMSA Accredited Marine Surveyor to carry out the vessel inspection directly.
For new vessels, a certificate of survey will be issued by DPTI upon receipt of a completed ‘Application for certificate of survey for a domestic commercial vessel’ (AMSA form 521), the relevant vessel inspection reports and payment of the applicable fees.
For existing vessels, a certificate of survey will be issued by DPTI upon expiry of the existing certificate of survey, receipt of the relevant vessel inspection reports and payment of the applicable fees.
DPTI will continue to issue Certificates of Survey, provide advice on domestic commercial marine matters and process all other applications.
Visit the DPTI website for more information about this change.
