Several members of the South Australian Northern Zone Rock Lobster Fisherman’s Association travelled to Fremantle where the 2015 biannual Trans-Tasman Rock Lobster Congress was held in April.

The congress began with an informal welcome evening at the Ridges Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle.

The following day the formal proceedings began with informative presentations from a number of speakers. One of these was Kristan Porter, Director – Marine Lobstermen’s Association, who travelled from the USA to give an overview of the Maine Lobster Fishery.

A fantastic dinner with the ‘Lobster Taste off’ followed the first day.

On day two there were some interesting presentations about food safety, traceability and vessel safety management. Ross Hodge, Executive Officer, Southern Rock Lobster Limited presented on the Clean Green Program – there was a lot of interest around the room.

The Western Australian’s let us in on some of their research, science and technology and the day was finished with several presentations on Trade and Marketing.
